The Story
For decades, the Austin Steam Train Association has carried on a tradition that most places have let fade: the feel of a genuine excursion and history you can actually ride. None of that happens by accident.
Behind every trip is a small army of volunteers, mechanics, and crew keeping the equipment running, the tracks safe, and the experience alive. Ticket sales cover part of it – but the rest depends on people like you!
Restoration Roundup is our campaign to fund the everyday work that keeps ASTA moving: maintenance, operations, restoration, and the people who make it all possible. This is about making sure ASTA is here for the next 30 years the way it’s been here for the last 30.
Why It Matters
- Every excursion takes real upkeep. Historic equipment doesn’t run on nostalgia alone! It takes constant care, parts and expert hands.
- We’re volunteer-powered. Your gift directly supports the people and materials that keep this nonprofit running.
- This is living history. ASTA is history that you can ride, hear, and feel! That only continues with community support.

Join us for the celbration
All Aboard for finale of The Restoration Roundup!
Join us on Saturday, October 24th, 2026, for a day spent celebrating what makes this railroad worth saving.
Start your day by touring our yard, train, and museum! This is your chance to see our restoration projects up close, our vintage train cars at the platform, and our collection of railroad memorabilia. This platform party is free and open to everyone from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with activities for the whole family. Come say howdy, then stick around to wave the train off into the night!
Finally, saddle-up for a train ride like no other as we close out our biggest fundraiser of the year! All ticket sales for this ride go toward helping us meet our $10,000 goal. So, dust off your boots and settle in for a ride through the Texas Hill Country under a canopy of stars as the sun sets on a day of making memories!
Cap off the campaign with us at a community celebration on the platform: activities, food, and an optional sunset ride. All are welcome – donors, members and friends of ASTA alike!
