Bring your family together to ride the Flyer!

During October and November we offer families two different train rides into the Hill Country.

On Saturdays, our Hill Country Flyer departs Cedar Park at 10:00am for a two hour ride to Burnet. We have a layover in Burnet for lunch at a restaurant of your choice or you can bring a picnic and enjoy the city park a few blocks from the train. Then shortly before the train departs Burnet the Hill Country Gunfighters take the stage in a wild west shoot 'em up show using historic firearms. The train returns to Cedar Park at 4:30pm.

On Sundays, our Bertram Flyer departs Cedar Park at 2:00pm for a three hour round-trip excursion to the little town of Bertam, that includes a 15 minute stop to explore the historic 1912 depot. The train returns to Cedar Park on Sundays at 5:00pm.

Our historic railroad operates vintage passenger cars pulled by our 1960 diesel Alco Engine while our 1916 steam engine is restored.

The trains are operated by the dedicated staff and volunteer crews of the Austin Steam Train Association, a community-based non-profit 501(c)3 organization.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between coach and lounge? Coach cars have no A/C or heat; Excursion cars have A/C and heat; Lounge cars have A/C, heat, and complimentary light snacks.

Do you assign seats? Yes.

Do we need a reservation? Seats that have not been reserved in advance are sold at the station 90 minutes before train departure. Typically the climate controlled cars are sold out before the day of the trip. Reservations are recommended.

Can we bring food with us? Yes, you are welcome to bring a picnic. However, alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the train. The Concession Car also sells cold sodas, hot coffee and munchies.
